Data Architect

Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technologies professionals is working in conjunction with one of the busiest web companies in the world located in San Francisco on a permanent job opening.


They are looking for a world-class data architect and database administrator. They need someone who is curious about big data problems and excited about their site and its future.

RESPONSIBILITIES
You must know when to denormalize your data, when to store it using the blackhole storage engine, whether to use SQL or NoSQL, and when to use flat files. You will work on an elite team of database gurus, alongside systems administrators and operations engineers.


REQUIREMENTS:
BS/CS or equivalent experience
Extensive experience as a Database Administrator
Extensive experience with Unix/Linux
Extensive experience with MySQL
Experience in a high-volume data environment
Experience in a large cluster environment
Intimate familiarity with typical CS algorithms
Familiarity with and deep interest in NoSQL databases
Familiarity with Map/Reduce programming methodology
Ability to carry a pager and be available 24x7
A sense of humor and an unflappable demeanor
Python, BASH, and/or Perl scripting skills (in that order)


QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Cassandra, Hadoop Hive, PostgreSQL
Experience working in an engineering organization
Experience with data warehousing technologies
Experience with fulltext searching technologies
Familiarity with alerting and monitoring systems and best practices
Familiarity with Puppet or other configuration management systems
Experience coding Erlang, Java, C, C++
Experience with Riak, CouchDB, MongoDB, Hypertable, HBase, Voldemort, MemcacheDB, Tokyo Tyrant, etc

Systems Engineer/Developer

Adecco Engineering and Technical, a division of the world leader in the recruitment of engineering and information technologies professionals has a client with a permanent job opening in San Francisco, CA.

They are seeking to fill a Systems Engineer position with someone who has development experience and an interest in working with large scale distributed system infrastructures.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop and improve tools that are used to manage our infrastructure
* Help manage the configurations we use throughout our environment
* Work with developers, QA, and R&D on designing and implementing maintainable system architectures
* Maintain an understanding of the infrastructure as a whole and be able to fix things if gremlins decide to wreak havoc in our systems.



QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelors degree or higher (preferably in Computer Science)
* Experience in development and/or systems engineering
* Understanding of distributed systems
* Strong knowledge of Python (other programming languages a plus)
* Some experience with Debian and Debian packaging OR Ubuntu
* Experience with source control tools such as GitHub
* Familiarity with some or all of the following: Puppet, Apache, mysql, scribe, hadoop, mogilefs, cassandra, gearman, rabbitmq, clusto, memcached, etc.
* Experience working on some open source projects.
